RE-ELECT RAY

FOR STATE HOUSE

I previously served eight years (four terms) in the S.D. House. I was on the Education Committee, Taxation Committee, and Appropriations Committee, which decides the state budget.

I want to continue serving the people of Clay and Union Counties, and all of South Dakota.

What I’ll be fighting for . . .

FAMILY VALUES

Protect all children—born and unborn—with protective laws, good education, effective health care, and adequate wages.

FAIRNESS

Enact taxes and regulations that treat individuals and businesses fairly.

HEALTHCARE

Ensure adequate health care for all South Dakotans, especially children, the poor, and the elderly.

EDUCATION

Fund schools adequately and fairly; pay and evaluate teachers fairly; protect small schools.

Hello, supporters.

Yes, I’m running—again—for the S. D. House of Representatives.  During (I thought) my last campaign in 2018, I wrote “this is the last year I’ll ask for campaign contributions for myself.” I really meant that then, but this is now.  I was a “placeholder” for District 17, but when no one else came forward, Mary and I decided we could tolerate two (only two!) more winters in Pierre.

I started thinking more seriously about running again after the June primary.  I know and have worked with several of the fourteen moderate Republican incumbents who lost.  We frequently disagreed, but we could work together.  That may not be true for a lot of their replacements.  The few Democrats and moderate Republicans need help pushing back on the extremists

Despite the Republicans’ best efforts, we finally expanded Medicaid, keeping many lower-income people—and our workforce—healthier.  Now they want a work requirement!

So much still needs to be done.  We’re back to 49th in teacher salaries.  Needs-based college scholarships are still seriously underfunded.  We’re one of about seven states that don’t support early childhood education.  With falling support and myriad other failures at the national level, state government is more and more critical.

Thank you for your past support.  I need your help one more time.
